Pros

Mercy Corps offers deeply meaningful work with a mission-driven focus, making it an inspiring place to build a career in humanitarian aid and development. The organization is filled with passionate, talented colleagues who are dedicated to creating real impact worldwide. Strong values, a commitment to DEI, and a supportive culture make it an inclusive and engaging workplace. Employees benefit from international exposure, cross-cultural collaboration, and professional growth opportunities, including leadership programs and learning initiatives. Depending on the role, there is also some flexibility in work arrangements, contributing to a good work-life balance.

Cons

While Mercy Corps is a mission-driven organization, compensation is a major drawback, with salaries often significantly below market rates, making long-term retention challenging. Career growth can be limited due to budget constraints and a lack of clear advancement pathways. The organization’s structure can be bureaucratic, leading to slow decision-making and inefficiencies. Additionally, funding volatility affects job security and program stability, creating uncertainty for employees. While there are development opportunities, resources for professional growth can be inconsistent, and workload demands can be high, especially in under-resourced teams.

Pros

It’s a very tough time to be in ID but MC continues to stay afloat and is trying to pivot in this new landscape. I maintain the staff that’s still here is some of the best of the best, everyone really cares and continues to challenge me and push our programs to do better.

Cons

Outlook is uncertain given donor environment. No real opportunities for professional growth. Ongoing RIFs and loss of talented staff.
