Pros

Great building and great people for the most part, all very motivated to do the best kind of work they can do. Building is awesome.

Cons

New management wants to be "transparent" yet that means transparent workers, not management. As in, they don't share any information about what they're doing or planning. They don't even take the time to talk to their workers below floor 3, I'd be surprised if they know their names. It's almost like they're trying to chase away long term employees with how they are treating them. Don't expect to get a pay raise any time soon.

The current management team takes your feedback very seriously and is doing everything to create a culture of transparency as appropriate. Feedback is an important part of that transparency and we believe it is necessary for the conversation to be a two way conversation. In the last 12 months we have enacted numerous all company get together meetings where we bring most of our employees to our corporate location. We also provide monthly updates to employees and our executives all have an open door policy. Along with this we have created many smaller teams and committees within Meta to allow all employees to provide direction for the different aspects of the company. We appreciate your feedback and will continue to make efforts to be open with our employees.

Pros

The work environment is a great place to learn the basics of a company's operations and working in an office. The internship was very helpful in developing my professional communication skills and comfortability within an office space. The hours were very flexible and the pay was good. Good learning space for interns and questions are encouraged. I was able to collaborate with almost every department of the company for a well-rounded learning experience.

Cons

It is right in the downtown Iowa City area, so I ended up eating out a lot at the local restaurants.

Pros

I'm a long-time former employee, and had I not decided to pursue my passions outside the software industry I would very likely be back at MetaCommunications. I've seen how a lot of companies function, and have owned/operated my own business as well. And from that perspective I can say MetaCommunications is a great place to work. Sure...they had some growing pains in the early years, but what company doesn't?

Cons

I don't really have any Cons...but maybe a word of advice. If you have the drive and desire, and want the opportunity to become the best at what you do - whether it's programming, support, professional services, sales, marketing, or whatever - then MetaCommunications is a fantastic environment. If you want to become a true professional in your career, MetaCommunications is the place for you. If you are simply looking for a "job" where you come to work, put your time in, and nothing further with no real true ambitions or desires, then MetaCommunications may not be for you. And I say that for both your and the company's benefit. Seriously - look inside yourself, do some soul searching, and ask yourself what it is you really want to achieve in your professional career - if you have the inner passion, drive, and desire, then MetaCommunications will help you achieve it.
