If you are a minority working in Accounting or Finance the expectation is that you’d better be grateful to have such a job. Honestly, use it to fill your resume, it’ll help in future endeavors. Mostly all minorities with degrees in Accounting/Finance roles end up leaving. Non degree AP associates are expected to work 20 + years doing more complex tasks while being underpaid and not getting the recognition they earned. Unless you are a white man or women ( this is who occupy 98% of the degree required roles in Accounting/Finance) there is no way you will make leadership in these departments. Doesn’t matter how smart you are or what level of expertise or education you possess, you are either not considered or blackballed. What tops the cake is that promotions are handed out like hot cakes to associates who lack the basic skill and talent to thrive at their job, when it comes to you, there are excuses and reasons (budget, new leadership, etc). You can work your butt off, devote all the time in the world, improve processes, develop advanced excel skills, etc. You are still a minority in their eyes. It’s quite troubling as many people have left the company for this reason. It’s disgusting and also baffling at the same time that a company with such great potential could allow its leaders to push talent out the door.
