Pros

I enjoyed working here for the most part. I enjoyed the clients that I worked with and enjoyed the program.

Cons

BUT if you are thinking of working here and you belong to any other ethnicity that isn't white, be prepared to feel unsupportive. The fact that they currently have a job posting for a bilingual therapist who will have to independently do the entire work of a multidisciplinary team is proof. I was able to witness this at multiple locations. I do believe that this workplace is inherently racist, disguised as being white saviors. I was privy to how individuals who weren't white were treated and it was disappointing. This agency likes to place offices in low-income locations and none of the staff look like the clients, everyone is white. The family preservation center was opened in an area that has a high population of monolingual Spanish speakers in the area. Yet no one in that office speaks Spanish? The same thing with the Delaware office and the comittis center. I was also able to see how different co-workers were treated depending on the color of their skin. Mind you there are less than 10 individuals that are not white. They also hire so many new staff members and have nowhere to put them. No office space so they will have you use a dinner table in the back of a hall, where you have no privacy. If you have a client meeting, you have to go and find an open office. Oftentimes there were no open offices. Some programs get treated like the beesknees while other programs get ignored. Management does not provide a lot of structure or training. When you ask for training or structure, often you are told that the world is gray and that we live in a gray world.- come on! you need black and white to get gray. stop using that as an excuse for not wanting to do your actual job and be a manager. Also, be prepared for attachment-based therapy to become your focus. That is all that we were expected to pump out in our work. I didn't even do therapy but that was all that we heard. They follow it like a cult. Some of the managers also seem to mirror each other and, if you want to do well at this non-profit you have to follow them like a blind pariah, or else you get picked on for stupid minuscule things.

Pros

Meaningful work, amazing clients, and a strong team. My team was one of the best teams I have ever worked with. Most of the know what they're doing, and if they don't, they will go through the appropriate channels to figure it out. Obviously, the clients are always tough in community mental health, though my former clients and coworkers were the only reasons I stayed for as long as I did.

Cons

Management. To put it plainly, if you're not a favorite, prepare to be pushed to the side every single time. There are also significant pay disparities between programs without logical justification.
