Pros

- good 401k matching program

Cons

- c-suite is absolutely clueless and micromanaged the teams - the program office is nothing but a reporting team to upper management and provides 0 value in getting work done - Lyft program is the only promising work that the company has, but limited people know the requirements and aren’t building the product for the customer. - tech is very behind competitors - product org leadership is a joke, no direction and doesn’t understand the product - eng team is lazy, excuse driven and has no real work to show - Marketing does a great job, only thing the company is actually doing - shares are worthless - Vps legit hate one another - overall it’s a mess

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, though it's obviously not feedback we're happy to hear. I’m sorry that your time at Motional didn’t meet your expectations. We're proud of all we have achieved: our team has been behind many industry firsts, including the world's first robotaxi pilot, and operation of the world's most-established robotaxi fleet which has provided over 100,000 rides. And, most recently, Motional became one of the first companies in the world to operate fully driverless vehicles on public roads. These accomplishments (and many more) speak as much to the talent and dedication of our teams as they do to the reliability and the quality of our technology. Again, I'm sorry you were disappointed in your experience here, and I wish you the best for the future. Dave Helton Vice President, Programs & Systems

Pros

Excellent place to learn and grow a career. In software, especially cloud and data products, very kind and collaborative culture of people who work hard to learn and grow. Very good benefits package. Lots of room to have autonomy and to be a builder and a maintainer. Leadership team requires that promotion cases demonstrate real business impact, which makes it a good environment to learn how to be impactful.

Cons

Significant portion of company located in Singapore can be awkward for a few select roles. The company is past the funnest startup phases and needs to be aligned with frugal, fiscally conservative safety-first culture of South Korean Hyundai (parent company). Equity package looks inflated on paper by about 3-4x (the stock options are little more than a tax complication). Lots of red tape. Company moves slow. Cross-functional nature of domain-scoped teams requires program management and a bit of bureaucracy to get many things done. Leadership leverages the glass ceiling effect very effectively, which can have the unfortunate effect of orienting engineers to business problems instead of engineering.
