Pros
This review is for the Junior Associate position that starts out with the Columbus program in Bangalore. Note that your experience in this company can vary drastically depending on what account you are put on. Overall, I gained a lot during my time with Mu Sigma. I would recommend taking some time to evaluate the Pros and Cons from my review and others to see if this job is for you. 1. You get to go to India for 4-6 months. During this time you will meet a lot of new people, be immersed in another culture, and get to Travel around SE Asia in your spare time. Definitely one of the highlights of the experience. 2. You get to learn from / interact with some really smart and talented co-workers 3. After India, you will be placed with a Fortune 500 client, and be given a lot of responsibility right off the bat. 4. There are a lot of interesting projects, much more so than an entry level consulting from any other company would get. You will learn a lot, and the skill-set you gain from Mu Sigma is very in valuable
Cons
1. When I joined, the actual learning part of the Columbus Program was very unorganized. All of the learning was self learning (which was fine, because members of the batch were able to lean heavily on each other during this time). This is a stark contrast to the "state of the art" learning program that Mu Sigma likes to talk about. I think there have been some improvements lately, but just something to keep in mind. 2. Pay in the US is not competitive, and it's even worse for the Indian teams. Benefits are also not great (10 days PTO + Sick Days). There is a "fixed track" promotion system, so you won't be making a competitive salary until you've been with the company for 3+ years. 3. Lots of manager horror stories due to young and inexperienced managers. Was never a huge problem for me, but seems to be a common theme in other accounts. 4. Because of the nature of working with an offshore team, regular calls outside of working hours are a norm. Typically, you will have a morning call (~7:30 AM) and a night call (~9:00 PM). Sometimes, if there is a work disaster or a tight deadline, you will have to work until very late into the night. I have been on calls at 1AM before 5. Very high turnover rate on the offshore team can cause quality issues with the work 6. There has been a recent shift in the Junior Associate role to be more sales and consulting, and less hands on analytics work. This could be a pro for you if this is what you are looking for in your next job.
