As a junior member of staff, it’s been really difficult to get proper support from HR. The HR representative is often late to work, takes long lunches, and during the day their office door is usually closed, which makes them feel unavailable even during normal working hours.
When junior staff go to HR for advice or clarification, the response often feels reactive instead of helpful. Rather than feeling supported, it can feel like blame is being assigned for asking questions. That makes it uncomfortable to raise concerns or ask for guidance, especially when you’re still learning.
HR should be a people partner and someone staff can approach openly. Right now, that’s not the experience many of us have.
