Pros
I worked with one of the best teams in my career and I actually felt listened to, considered, and felt like I was part of the team. It was a fun environment and we were all building up the new department which started earlier this year. The company has great benefits and you can work from home.
Cons
It's a marketing company - as the company gets larger and brings on more clients, along with increasing their expectations and procedures for how many sites to get done a quarter, you're going to get burnt out. They create a longer task list and expect you to get everything done within the same amount of time as before or even less time. They'll squeeze out as many hours as they can until they've found someone who can do the job faster, has way more experience, then dispose of you if you can't keep up. If you're "underperforming" because of burnout or are under protected classes (pregnancy, having a disability, etc), they overlook that and say they've accommodated for you but they thought it was supposed to be more short-lived. The upper management is very disconnected from their employees. I contributed to so many things that they currently do in the team and I was overlooked, overcriticized, and unseen because they had in the back of their minds that I was more inexperienced than the rest of the team - therefore they gave me tasks that didn't match my skill set and gave me fewer things to do in the end. There are too many employees who will say anything to save their skins. If something goes wrong on their end and it's their responsibility, they'll blame another employee and send the other management after the other employee. Not all upper management, but there are a few. The company says they are open to new ideas but they will say "this is the NKP way" and "this is how we do things here" or they'll say "This is a 'me' task" but will treat it like it's part of the standard. If you know more things than one of the managers about a topic and you're considered "less than," They won't listen. If someone else with a 'higher authority' (even if you're on the same team) says the same thing, all of a sudden they are heard, cherished, and listened to and they want to implement that idea/standard. Other employees can mention what you've done and mention you but the upper management will praise that other employee instead. Favoritism is HUGE here. If you haven't known them for years before hiring, or aren't a family friend, etc, you're not going to be heard easily. They like to hire employees where they can tell their clients "they've built this many websites and have X amount of experience" even if they're not as good. I've seen it time and time again. They'll also want you to be as good as someone who's been doing this for 10 years and expect you to get to that speed in less than 3 months. You don't feel seen by upper management, you're more of just a task on a ticket. If you have some major health issues and need to rest, they'll tell you, "Take all the time you need but get this done ASAP" which means you can't even rest. Once I mentioned a disability along with pregnancy, I was out within a month. All of a sudden things went downhill I was scheduled with too many things to do within a couple of days (which seemed impossible to finish), then I was put on probation because of poor performance and because someone overwrote my work to where it looked like I didn't even do anything I got written up for it. When I told someone their critiques were a bit harsh on my work, I got written up saying I was inappropriately talking to a coworker. Then they kept giving me fewer things, and even though I did what they asked me to do, they decided to let me go on the day I could request maternity leave and blamed it on poor performance. There are better places to work where you're actually heard and listened to.
