Pros

- Work schedule flexibility dependent on machine run schedule - Tons of low hanging fruit (projects) to work on and freedom to take on new projects and spend money - Plant manager has a good head on his shoulders, but is too disconnected from issue at hand - There were so many good people in low management...

Cons

- Site still not profile after 3 years - Site losing 1/2 of their business earlier this year and slow to recover - Lack of attention to basic quality and basic chemical safety requirements - Lack of accountability by several members in management team - Watch for bait and switch tactics if accepting a job. It may not be the job you applied for - Most employees are "Silo'd" by mid management. No communication. Most of the lower management trying to keep communication stream flowing - Senior leadership is disconnected from the issues at hand on the floor level and has been making no effort to connect with their lower salary and hourly staff - Union contract is excessively lenient preventing removal of any employees short of committing a felony - Career growth is linear, you are waiting for the next person to either move up or leave the company - Upper management calls for change but makes no effort to drive it. Good policies in place with no enforcement or ability to enforce due to lenient union contract - Company is not merit based and high performers are not promoted for their work - Expect high salary turnover over the next 6 months at this site

Pros

The pay and benefits are very good for union and non-union alike. Health insurance starts on day one, and they have a plan for just about anyone. From a high deductible HSA plan to a 100% coverage with 0$ deductible plan. The atmosphere is laid back, and it really does take a lot to be fired. If you are ambitious and want to move up, they support you anyway they can. If you are happy being a machine operator, you will still have a fruitful career.

Cons

I don't think a 40 hour per week employee exists. If you work in the union, you find out on Thursday afternoon if you're working that weekend. In the finishing department they only have to give you off 3 days a month. In the retail department they don't have to give you off. If your partner calls in, you have to work a double shift if they can't find anyone to cover for you. If you work in the office, your schedule is fairly laid back, but for most people the workload keeps them busy. There is certainly a lot of money to be made in the company, but be prepared to work for it.
