Pros

Teachers get off at 4:30, health benefits

Cons

I was at Neighborhood House's Daycare for 41 days. Like most jobs, it started out ok in the beginning. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. However, as time went on, it became stressful. There is one child in the class who is not only non verbal and screams a lot, they are a liability in the sense that they throw hard toys and blocks at people. They take a lot of time and attention and at one point, it felt like the other two teachers changed certain aspects of the classroom to fit this one child's needs and wants. The teachers had trouble controlling and managing the classroom and children as well as communicating. One of the teaches claims I hurt her feelings and we had to sit and have a whole discussion about that. There are a total of 10 kids in the classroom and half of them have serious behavioral issues. These teachers are not behavioral technicians and they poorly communicate. I felt like one of them was very controlling in the sense that they didn't trust me and it felt like they were always watching me and glaring at me to see what I would do to screw up. I am 100% positive that that teacher reported me twice and falsely accused me of mishandling the children. The final straw for me was that I had let the lead teacher know that I need clear communication on what they wanted and I asked how they thought I was doing at the job and asked if I needed to improve on anything. They weren't honest with me and they apparently told the boss/supervisor that I wasn't pulling my weight and I was snapping at the children. This isn't true by a long shot. I was stern with the children sometimes as I felt that's what they needed but apparently, being stern is inappropriate. I should also mention that the teacher who was watching me all the time was on their phone half the time texting and calling people. This was their PERSONAL phone which the supervisor asked us not to use during work hours.
