Pros
IF you are full time employee you will never be fired. So good job stability. Everyone there doesn’t care. University jobs are laid back in general but add with it the New Mexico culture and you get super lazy people. I worked in information technology and we literally would just shoot the bull, spend 3 years building programs that didn’t matter. It’s state funded so performance is not a work they know. Depending on your manager. The job can be super laid back. You know in office space the line about doing 5 minutes of real work a week? That is NMSU.
Cons
I was there for several years because I had to be and there were ZERO raises for almost everyone on campus except for managers. Even their raises were like 1%. retirement is a joke, hey take 10% out of your check and you can’t say no. I left to work at a place that gives me 10%+. If you live in las cruces it’s one of the few places to work that are ok, but get out as fast as you can and leave the town. NMSU has been going downhill now for well over 15 years. Education horrid, athletics horrid and working there boring.
