Pros
Longstanding market presence with a good portion of a dedicated client base. Great billing software that is robust and quickly ready for regulatory changes ahead of the curve. Recently dumped their hospital product and acquired Health Fusion to move towards an offering of an SaaS model in the future. Workplace environment is casual and comfortable to be in day to day.
Cons
Employees have become a complete afterthought and disposable. Sure, you hear this about companies a lot right? But NextGen had a stellar reputation with dedicated and long-term employees and used to reward them well for taking the company higher in the market. But development is grotesquely antiquated as is their tech platform. New CEO is grasping at straws and so far has made some obvious necessary changes that needed done but has also taken action that ensures little of any job assurances for any employees and large number of employees laid off already in 2016. Too much upper management and way too lean on development resources. Large number of clients are flocking to the competitors in the interest of their businesses and their search for a modern platform that is needed to stay current with changing industry needs. Critical pieces of the software are imploding and contributing to the continued exodus of clients and employees most of all. Massive exporting of jobs to India where the quality of work has been consistently sub-standard which is also greatly compromising the product quality and hurting customer satisfaction.
