Pros

Full time work from home

Cons

Ever since Rusty Frantz left and David Sides took over, it's been going downhill. Rusty made the place feel like one big family with one job and everyone had everyone's back now everyone, watch your back! David Sides joins and slowly but surely destroys that family and just focuses on his one job, the almighty dollar. He brought in failed laid off Cerner employees to carry out his desires. Many of the Cerner folks that came in took high level positions, like directors, that they had no knowledge or experience at. They refused to use the NextGen terminology or even see what our processes were before they 'process improved'. However they were yes people for everything the executive leadership team was promoting with the ultimate goal of selling NextGen and lining the ELT's pockets with boat loads of cash. Nextgen was acquired on 11/10/2023, a Friday. That following Monday the layoffs started, right before the holidays. 20% of the work force wiped out in a week. Most of them US side and many with over 10 years experience and extensive domain knowledge that is now lost. I get it, more senior US employees are expensive and the powers to be want to move as much work over seas because the ultimate goal is to sell NextGen to another company in a few years. That's what equity firms do.

Pros

Lots of industry experts were employed there during my tenure. Great resources and experience to learn from early on. Get what you can quickly. A great place to network for a better job on the outside. Fresh grads are welcomed and it's a good place to determine if Healthcare IT truly interests you. Newbies are usually welcomed warmly.

Cons

Management change after hostile restructuring introduced a level of distrust that was seriously toxic. Employees were turning on each other to try and save their own jobs. Entire teams and critical resources and teams were annihilated leaving bare bones staffing to shore up massively failing products to a dissintegrating client base. Not to mention the mass exodus of their best resources. One huge layoff of many in 2 years, consisted only of those of average age of 45+, most all with either their own or familial severe medical issues and expenses and even with child. For a company who is self-insured this was a way to devastate employees lives while helping their bottom line, while hoping to sell the company off to the highest bidder. Multiple employees died of cancer and each of them shared stories with many others of how the company helped destroy their health completely. One employee stated that every cancer cell in her body had the company name stamped on it due to the abuse she received even while very sick. Now factor in that there were no bidders seriously interested in buying this toxic machine and their largest flagship clients were leaving by the dozens due to a 20+ year old code base on an antiquated platform, you quickly see how the company had no choice but to go into huge debt by acquiring companies who do everything better, and try to piece meal them into a marketable product. And it's still not working remotely as planned. Worst of all, this was all at the expense of their best talent and it's still happening. People come and go in all businesses as that is the nature of business evolution to a degree, yes. Though the company developed a cyclical way trying same old methods, one after the other, over and over while achieving the same results which is desperation in a market they once dominated and they are now watching the waves slowly suck them into an undercurrent. 'Most Improved' was recently awarded to one of their products which more appropriately put would have been coined 'From Rags To Ripples' in a huge sea of superior competition. Every company and great idea has a shelf life. From my previous manager, 'This company has seen its own shelf life come and go, just watch' The most recent 're-branding' is yet another attempt to beg its employees to stay while the iceberg continues to rip through the hull. Ladies and gentlemen, please proceed to your muster stations. Even the current situation isn't looking well.

Pros

Occasional free food was available. A few good managers.

Cons

Process, Process Process. Well, until they moved all the software development to India, leaving Americans out of work and on the street. If you have any interest in your career, don't even bother. This company won't be around much longer.
