Pros

So many caring floor staff. The residents and families are incredible. I would say the pay is good, but they will eventually find a way to cut it, steal your PTO, etc.

Cons

The hardest part of the job is not having the supplies and the support needed to get things done. Seems we were always out of everything from washcloths to toilet paper to chicken broth. The computers are ancient and love to freeze and crash. Most of management is poor. For example, they will linger around a meal cart full of unpassed trays and talk about where they would like to order lunch from. Meanwhile there's been a call in, floor staff are behind, running their butts off trying to catch up and residents meals are in the cart getting cold. Nurses are constantly interrupted during med pass for small things management could easily help with, but instead they'll pretend not to hear the resident hollering out for kleenex then stand around and chit chat about what they were up to the night before. On one occasion, management spent all week advertising pizza for staff on Friday. But when Friday rolled around the only delivery was the Chinese food leadership ordered themselves. The floor staff were completely forgotten about. We were use to that. I could go on, but there's probably a limit here. Overall, the things mentioned above were not rare occurrences. If that were that case, it would be easy to look past. It is constant. I'd say its a completely thankless job, but I can't because the families are incredibly kind and grateful. Most of Leadership dont even look at floor staff unless they need something done. You're rarely ever greeted with a good morning or a smile. Unfortunately corporate isn't any better. Every attempt to reach out to someone higher is ignored. I don't even know how this company continues running. So many wonderful staff who have worked in the facility for 20 plus years left after Northshore bought the facility. They thought they had seen it all being bought out by a number of different companies over the years, but nothing disappointed quite like Northshore. You can just read through the reviews and see most reviews from management are pretty positive. While the floor workers tend to give lower reviews and often make negative comments about inner management and corporate employees.
