Pros

Being a reporter at a newspaper is a fun job. You never know what you will be doing from one day to the next. I also met many lifelong friends while working here. The other reporters and copy editors are generally talented and friendly.

Cons

Newsroom management is clueless at best and tyrannical at worst. There are certain top managers who have clung to positions for decades despite constantly killing morale by treating people in ways that no one deserves. The newsroom staff is less than half what it was a decade ago following several rounds of layoffs, but there actually added a top level manager that was totally unnecessary. Turnover is incredibly high as many experienced younger reporters have fled rather than face more rounds of layoffs and abuse from managers. The new owner is a snake who forced the newspaper to run a hit piece on a presidential candidate in 2012 from another of his publications that was extremely unethical, unfair, inaccurate and tarnished the newspaper's already tenuous reputation for lack of objectivity.
