They are committed to change and implementation of ideas from employees to improve employee engagement and satisfaction. Here, leaders truly care about there employees and helping them to grow and learn as employees or even as new leaders. The co-workers here are like a family - it feels like we are a part of the community and together we can work to make a difference in the health of those who choose our services. Lafayette General Medical Center has a great facility and has made great improvements in the building structure over the years.
Cons
Compensation is not at market for all hospital positions - this creates problems with recruiting and retaining the best talent. Additionally, some of the licensed positions that have national shortages have problems recruiting - why come to work at the busiest hospital in the region for less pay or the same pay as a slower paced work environment? Some of our most talented employees have left for what they feel are better opportunities elsewhere - even other hospitals in the LGH system (less work for either more or same pay). Work load is very heavy at the main campus of LGMC and employees that do remain loyal are at a high probability of having burn out. Although we are told pay does not depend on work load - but on duties only, it is extremely difficult to get approval to add additional positions to help the work load. So we continue with not enough positions and having to overcome a bad reputation of being overworked to fill the ones we have vacant. We also loose employees to other major metropolitan areas in the state because our pay is just not competitive.
