Pros
Office Depot does a great job with keeping the customer first priority, and generally allows associates to cater to all customers during "depot time." The stores I have been to allowed everyone to be cross-trained for every function in the store and whenever we are short-staffed someone can be easily substituted when needed. Breaks and lunches are the standard 15 and 30 minutes, and are flexible with receiving them. Flexibility with school or second job really make me stay there for the 5+ years while going to college and pursuing other career opportunities.
Cons
Weekly hours can fluctuate really harsh at times, one week you have 32+ and then you are dropped to a pathetic 15-20 hours. Consider this job as a way to get through school or bad economic times. Advancements are a joke to be honest, you start out as a cashier and from there you are placed in either freight, sales floor, or copy/print. Otherwise, you are left to be cashier. Hourly pay is not competitive, raises are yearly (barely 3% raise, what a joke) and you could be making more at fast-food or sit-down restaurants.
