Pros
In-house employees are industry-experienced professionals.
Mostly friendly and welcoming.
When they are in enough need on a project, they are willing to give prospective employees chances at doing work they might not otherwise be considered for at larger companies. This is great if you need to find a place that will be open to giving you a chance during a career transition!
Cons
You'll receive one set of instructions to do a task one week, then receive radically different instructions the next ... and the next ... and the next. The varying instructions increase confusion and re-work.
DE&I involvement in the hiring process means you will be asked, "what do you bring to the table?" I.e., if you don't add something notably different, you're no longer a viable candidate. Your natural identity will be taken into account, in counter to EOE principles. It won't matter if you are an advocate for DE&I, unless you actually possess a DE&I trait.
