Pros

I met some great people and made some lifelong friends working at OuterBox.

Cons

Buyer beware - the phrase "we're growing" is just HR spin for hiring. They're never growing in staff, they're constantly hiring to backfill the people who continuously quit. You're bound to find negative aspects to any job, whether you're in the corporate world or at an agency. Most of the time those negatives can be overlooked because the positives far outweigh the negatives. Sadly, at OuterBox, this wasn't the case. The numbers don't lie, during my tenure at OuterBox, EIGHT members of the SEO team (Strategists, Writers & Specialists) left the company and within the six months following my departure, an additional SEVEN members of the SEO team left. This is not an accident. OuterBox has some major retention issues, most of which are fueled by a poor management team and an executive leadership team that makes knee-jerk decisions and poorly thought out forced processes that are forgotten just about as quickly as they were mandated. The managers and senior strategists of the SEO department are the last to jump in to help others, if at all. These folks are happy to go home after their 8-5 day and let the rest of the team toil away working 70+ hours a week, just to stay afloat. That is not management or leadership. All the while, the sales team continues to sign new clients, much to the dismay of the overburdened & overworked SEO team.

We're a growing company and definitely, by no means, going backwards. We were at 50 people when the pandemic hit and now we're 70 💪. With that being said, we're hiring many new people and retaining our greatest assets, awesome team members, as well. Have some people left or been let go? Of course. We expect a lot. We value every dollar a client spends with us and if we cannot meet those standards or have performance issues we take it very seriously. Our culture is important and we expect each employee to value the others around them. At OuterBox, we schedule each team member for around 6 hours of work per day. If you're working 70 hours, something is wrong. We would never expect that and know that isn't a healthy work life balance. We'd hope anyone in that situation would reach out directly to management and owners as we know they would work personally with you to understand the core issue and resolve it. We've been on a great hiring spree bringing on TOP talent and we strive to continue to grow with the most talented people on our team!

Pros

Some groups are very specialized and highly skilled There are some teams that care deeply about their clients and deliver really high performance Remote work Summer Fridays

Cons

The company has grown extremely fast but is not keeping standards up across the organization. It is clear that the quality of work and level of expertise varies significantly based on which team you are on. Some processes are built around certain offices or teams but don't consider the full organization. There is very limited engagement for culture events.
