Pros
• Outstanding health insurance and other pretty good benefits (discounted ORCA card, free cooking classes, employee discount, etc.) for what it is. Good hourly pay. • Management is as giving as they can be when allowing for vacation/time-off • Opportunities to do prep work that will help with Deli/Kitchen promotions IF something opens up • Solid union contract and protection after 90 days • Instills high customer service values • I had a lot of fun interacting with some great regular customers • If you're going to work in a grocery store, this is a good place to do it. • They usually show appreciation during the holidays with a PCC gift card to each employee.
Cons
• While maintaining high cleanliness standards is a Pro, their mantra is "If you've got time to lean, you've got time to clean." You're seen as lazy if you're standing around during slow times. Keep moving, make it fast, don't f*ck anything up, and you might be okay. • Lots of guilt-tripping if you call in sick. I was questioned when I called in having the flu, asking what my symptoms were. • Lots of turnover low on the totem pole, but not much higher up, which makes upward mobility really tough—within the Deli, at least. • There can be some really nasty customers that take advantage of you and PCC's standards of customer service. PCC wants you to bend over backwards for the customers, but you might feel like you're bending over forwards sometimes. • Relatively low morale as a collective group of co-workers. • Invest in a good pair of shoes that you don't mind spilling food on. Your feet will be killing you. • Employees at the Main Office can be really intense disciples of the PCC brand. You'll rub shoulders with them, so play your part or face hell.
