Pros
Your fellow new grads will be compassionate to you because they are suffering in the same way
Cons
In the interview process, I asked how long the preceptorship lasted and what would happen if I felt I needed more time. The nurse manager said they would give me more shifts to make sure I was ready. The truth is that you have a maximum of 18 shifts and that's it. They began putting pressure on during the 5 shift on the floor. Also, the preceptors are untrained. The first one I had for 2 weeks was an excellent nurse of 2 years herself-used the skills checklist to fairly evaluate my skills, grade me, discuss. The 2nd and 3rd preceptors never referred to the preceptee skills checklist again-just a continual flood of criticism. Very unprofessisonal and unsupportive environment. The entire staff was comprised almost entirely of new grads.
