Pros

-Good wage for someone with limited education and work experience. -The company is an equal opportunity employer with a diverse workforce -The work itself is fascinating and important to the global economy

Cons

-Work hours and expectations terrible, never know if you will be forced to work an extra 4 hours until the last minute. Stressing all day not knowing when you will be off. -Work schedule fluctuating all the time, being randomly assigned to temporary shift assignments indefinitely with short notice. -The management is detached from reality and has no idea how their employees do their jobs in order to understand what realistic expectations of them would be. As a result the expectations are ridiculous and while never being written up for not meeting the quota, employees are constantly being told they are failing and they need to work harder and faster. -Quality is an ongoing problem that gets addressed but is never taken care of because of the disproportionate stress put on meeting production demands. The quality issues are not being resolved and material that is not meeting the customer's specifications is being sent out. -The union has no power. They do a poor job at protecting peoples jobs or even putting steps in place that would enable an employee to be successful. This job has am extremely high turnover rate and a large part of this is due to the union's inability to protect employees from being terminated for unfair reasons. -Someone gets fired from this job ever 3 days or so, many of the terminations are plain crude. -someone quits this job every week -The company preaches safety and shoves it down your throat constantly with rhetoric and intimidation by firing people for even the most minor or vague safety violation. Why? Because this company, it's methods, as well as the nature of the work itself.. is unsafe! You are always being told you need to do certain things in a way as such is safe, while at the same time they are allowing and expecting you to do things that are significantly more dangerous. They put a safety protocol in after people get hurt and leave everything else that is unsafe go until someone gets hurt. No one has any idea how to do they're job correctly or without risking a safety violation and half the time the safety officers don't know the proper protocol for work instructions and will have you check with someone else or they will get back to you. This leaves the employees feeling immobilized on how to approach their objectives because if they get hurt the investigation on the incident will cater to finding a safety violation. -Training is being done by people who aren't even close to being fully trained and competent on the equipment themselves. This is perpetuating an ever increasing overall incompetence of the entire company. One can tell their boss very directly "I am not yet trained to do this aspect of the job" but they will still advance you as being trained and expect you to do it. -I think I could go on forever but will end the cons section with this. I have seen this job change for the worse, and while it has been miserable I have adapted and put up with it. Every few weeks though the job somehow finds a new way to get even worse than it already has, and it simply isn't stopping. Nothing has gotten better here, it is just a constant linear degradation of job quality from month to month. It is terrible right now, it will be even worse tomorrow.
