Pros
Palomar is known to be really helpful for students, and compared to MiraCosta (the competing community college in North County San Diego), apparently the staff are better.
Cons
The district made horrible financial decisions and is $11M in deficit. (Thanks, President Dr. Blake.) They reduced pay for faculty, fired short term employees by the dozens (with no warning) which affects students negatively because departments can't do their work, they put a hiring freeze into effect. They let go of faculty without warning as well. The district believes that cutting budgets for departments like the Math Center (for tutoring) is not detrimental to students somehow. They basically shut down the campus food pantry because the short term workers weren't "essential" during a pandemic. Palomar doesn't work on policies and procedures first and instead waits to be sued to make policies. There is little foresight.
