Pros

Competitive salary compared to the market. Great team with talented and supportive colleagues (highly subjective). High-quality equipment and development tools.

Cons

Acquisition-driven business – the company has grown through acquisitions, making it difficult to align processes, technologies, and engineering practices across products. Company-wide initiatives are often poorly executed, with limited coordination and inconsistent adoption. Strong AI mandate – recent guidelines heavily encourage using AI for nearly every development task, to the point where writing code manually can feel discouraged. Minimal salary growth with promotions – taking on a new role often comes with a relatively small compensation increase. Salary compression – newly hired employees frequently earn more than existing employees in comparable roles, making long-term retention less rewarding.

Thank you for this post. I'm glad to hear you're getting the most out of the talented team that works at Perforce. Acquiring companies can always present challenges and can lead to different technologies and practices being used. Our goal in integrating these acquired businesses is to minimize disruption. Some times that means we continue to use programming languages and practices that are different. Hopefully, our continued journey with AI in our engineering teams will allow for continued integration to teams and process. We will look for ways we can continue to leverage AI as it is not only important to help speed development of our products but imperative to the growth of our engineers. ~Jim Cassens, CEO

Thanks for the message and I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the culture here at Perforce. With the latest acquisition, we crossed another plateau in growth and our processes need to evolve to support a larger organization. We are also updating a number of processes with AI. Thanks for leaving the message. ~Jim Cassens, CEO

Thank you for the well written post. One thing we pride ourselves on is open, honest, transparent communication. We've discussed all the discretionary spending decisions we've made to minimize any impact to our employees. This has meant we reduced the number of free meals we provide to the MN office from every week to twice a month. We still maintain happy hours, fun committee activities, and other social events at the office. The removal of Flexible Friday - where you work forty hours in 4.5 days to get an early start on the weekend, because it became difficult to speed decisions, schedule meetings, and focus on sales recovery. We intentionally have not reduced sales positions as this is our fastest way to achieve growth. That was shared at an all hands meeting and an email to all employees. That doesn't mean we have not removed under performing individuals. I'd love to talk to you about your comments around HR. Our People & Culture team is dedicated to supporting our employees and act as employee advocates to the business. We will continue to promote and support holiday traditions and have a strong set of values which focus on inclusion. Again, if you're up for it, It would be great to have a conversation on where you believe we can improve. We can only get better with feedback from our employees. ~Jim Cassens, CEO
