Pros

Accretive is very entrepreneurial and places a lot of responsibility on their employees. This provides lots of opportunities to grow as a leader of a people, especially for Operations Leads and Sr. Operations Leads. Fast growing company with a very innovative business model for outsourcing. Great insight into the workings of the U.S. health care system. Ability to "own" a piece of the business right away which includes responsibility for parts of the P&L. CEO is dynamic always looking to find innovative ways to transform the business.

Cons

Training is generally done on the job and there is a lot of pressure to provide results right away, which can be challenging if you have no industry background. Promotions are based on Vice President input, which means that if you don't have visibility to Senior Leadership then your chances for promotion are limited. I also felt as though there was select group of insiders who received preferred treatment. Reviews can be brutal, meaning they can involve escalated tones and harsh language. Overload of Vice Presidents from consulting companies (and other prestigious companies), but little middle management or entry level support. For executives this means you have to do a lot of the work yourself. For middle managers this often means the executives will expect their teams to be able to execute directives without sufficient staffing. Many positions require management of hourly staff. I only mention this because managers are responsible for the productivity of their teams and a lot of time is spent tracking employee hours, individual productivity and training/retraining employees.

Pros

The voluntary separation offer was good.

Cons

I and hundreds of colleagues were transferred from Providence Health & Services to R1. We were told we were guaranteed our jobs for a year. They started offering voluntary separation packages less than a year in. This was suspicious. I didn't take the first couple of offers, but eventually I did - things were feeling uneasy. Since leaving I've heard that there were several layoffs. R1's India team has taken over a lot of the coding we were doing. In the reviews I read before we started with R1 I know losing jobs to the India team was common. I'm glad I left when I did but it's been hard finding a new job.
