Witnessed U.S. employee layoff after layoff

Pros

Opportunities to work from home, as long as these types of jobs stay in the U.S. (HIM) Honestly, not many pros compared to other companies.

Cons

The biggest con is all the layoffs of U.S. employees, specifically HIM jobs. Outpatient coding is now in India and Inpt coding will eventually go to India. Analysis just went to India. Outsourcing jobs to unqualified workers, lowering standards (such as error margins) just for cheap labor. Currently Analysis employees are training the Indian workers who are taking their jobs. Severance packages were NOT offered. Management will not take responsibility for its actions. Mitigate blame for promotions. If you are not in management your job is not stable. This creates a cut throat environment, everyone for himself. Also, mngment teams seem to keep the company as silo departments..... no department knows what the other department is doing and no one is willing to talk to the other. I believe it's the effect of the everyone for himself culture R1 cultivates. No one wants to admit they don't know and need help. Insurance is absolutely terrible. PTO you completely lose at the end of the year if you don't use it. This creates the effect of employees needing to use PTO at the end of year and management gets angry that everyone is taking PTO. Seems quite fixable if the company would allow some PTO rollover. But management has no common sense. Because of layoffs and incompetent management with absolutely low to no communication between teams, morale is non existent. I am actively seeking employment elsewhere. What can I say other than this job pays the bills for now....

HORRIBLE - RUN

Pros

I will say, the insurance R1 offers to their employees is really nice. Probably one of the better plans I've ever had. The PTO isn't bad. But it kind of ends there with the pros.

Cons

HAHAHA. Literally everything. Working here is an absolute nightmare. If it wasn't for seniority, decent insurance, and the team I directly work for; I would have left long ago. Same goes for my whole team, which has been dwindled to 4 people left in the US. R1 took over the billing functions for my previous employer, Ascension, before that Wheaton. Prior to R1, our office was literally the standing model for our company. We were UNSTOPPABLE!! Money was flowing, people were happy, things looked GREAT. Then R1 came in. Fired a bunch of really experienced employees and hired of BUNCH, like triple, of unexperienced, and honestly not that bright, reps in India and other countries. For years we have been telling R1 to bring it back to the states, our billing is too complex for them, and after 4 years WE ARE STILL TRAINING THE SAME PEOPLE. It's absolutely a JOKE!! If you still want to apply for this company. Be ready to watch the world around you burn as you sip your coffee and say "this is fine".

Pros

Great location in Downtown Chicago, many experienced people to work for, and generally well intentioned and hardworking people to work with.

Cons

Where to begin? 1. Very poor communication to employees regarding compensation, job expectations, and other information that would be critical to doing their job. 2. Shady metrics reporting covers up lack of stability of tools. 3. Is more concerned with hiring people and putting butts in seats than actually taking the time and effort to vet qualified candidates. 4. Relies on outdated technology to provide innovative solutions. 5. Lack of competent HR department or strictly enforced HR practices. 6. Very poor communication to customer base regarding issues. 7. Lack of career stability as the company could be sold any day now. (Please read up on the Ascension-R1 RCM "partnership") 8.Lack of organizational stability. If one person leaves the company unexpectedly, there is a scramble to figure out what to do next and it usually leads to several bad decisions. 9. Too many office politics (which may be explained by all of the above). Seriously, this is a place of business, not high school. 10. Thinking that things would automatically change with a name change.
