Large company benefits with smaller company feel. - Software Engineer R1 RCM Employee Review

Pros

There are a lot of knowledgeable and passionate individuals here. The software problems that the company is faced with are very common and solvable. The company has the right people on the bus to solve the problems.

Cons

Upper management sometimes unknowingly gets in the way of the brightest minds in the company. Most recognition goes to someone with a VP in their title (and there are a lot of those). My department wasn't focused nearly enough in building relationships and comradery throughout the teams. Lots of focus went into "How productive are you to the company". Getting in-touch with HR is nearly impossible.

Pros

The voluntary separation offer was good.

Cons

I and hundreds of colleagues were transferred from Providence Health & Services to R1. We were told we were guaranteed our jobs for a year. They started offering voluntary separation packages less than a year in. This was suspicious. I didn't take the first couple of offers, but eventually I did - things were feeling uneasy. Since leaving I've heard that there were several layoffs. R1's India team has taken over a lot of the coding we were doing. In the reviews I read before we started with R1 I know losing jobs to the India team was common. I'm glad I left when I did but it's been hard finding a new job.
