Pros

Rackspace is highly focused on ensuring you have a great experience. They are one of the better employers in San Antonio (even though they have slipped quite a bit in the industry). Looking back, the thing I miss the most is the feeling of working with family and friends. It's tough to build that and Rackspace has done a great job from that aspect. I'd say the biggest benefit from a compensation perspective would be the vacation time. Vacation is important and Rackspace is one of the better companies in the industry (and I'm not counting the "unlimited" vacation companies). There are benefits (coffee shop and food trucks) that let you know you're working somewhere special. If you're in the San Antonio market, then you should absolutely consider Rackspace as an employer. I still miss this place!

Cons

Rackspace was an amazing place to work, but now it's just cool. Overall, leadership has been completely gutted a number of times over and it continues to happen. These decisions aren't inspiring for anyone. There used to be a sentiment that you could work hard and the most talented would rise to the top. Now, almost every single one of the SLT members are an external hire which sends signals to all current Rackers to leave if you want to move up. Rackspace is also pretty terrible when it comes to pay and it's getting worse. It used to be a decent excuse to take less to have more fun at work (and I was happy to do so). The fun has pretty much gone away but the low pay still exists. I've also noticed that leadership is fairly disconnected with Rackers. You don't really see them or hear from them unless something major happens. Every previous CEO would walk around the campus just to speak with Rackers and to see if there was anything they could help. Servant leadership used to be a big deal. I'm a lot of these behaviors stems from the buyout, but keeping everyone happy is extremely important to ensuring Rackspace stays valuable.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We're disappointed to hear your thoughts around our leadership team and promoting from within. We do have formal opportunities for our Rackers to grow into new roles and strive to promote from within when possible, but appreciate the opportunity to continuously improve. We are so glad you enjoyed our vacation time policy. We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your thoughts!

Pros

Remote status, AI workload hosting potential.

Cons

Disparate systems, teams. Many departments are bare-bones…. So sometimes teams are slow to engage.
