Pros

Some stock rewards, decent pay if you negotiate. Company gives small perks (parking) and tries to give back to community by asking staff to contribute to charitable organizations.

Cons

Clients are pissed! They feel trapped after spending far too much for PM software. They throw in add on services in the package that are extremely weak. Clients are constantly getting the run around while trying to find the right people to fix their issues. Management knows the clients are pissed and try to change processes only to find their is no fix, leading to upper management churn. Trying to be top notch at EVERYTHING in the Multifamily space isn't possible for this company. Reputation in industry is that they don't "play well" with other organizations. Worked with some of the most annoying brown nosing people that won't let you get in a word in edgewise. Constantly asked to provide data to prove your worth. Never had an understanding what is really going on with this company. Management is very secretive, always had the feeling that big brother is watching. CPO spouts off without considering employees on situations that make you wonder if you your group is at risk. No room for anyone to really speak their minds.. so you better be a YES man if you want to work here.

Thank you for your post. I appreciate the fact that you pointed out the fact that RealPage is known to be one of the most charitable organizations in the metroplex. I would agree that all talented employees should have the opportunity to "bloom" I agree that add on products should be the best product that we can build to create customer loyalty. I can tell you for a fact that your perception that Management has a big brother mentality is really off base, unless you have an isolated instances. We're working really hard to create a better company every day. Its unfortunate that you did not experience that like so many others have. I will share with you a couple of recent facts. The company just completed an engagement/ee survey. Over 83% of the employees filled it out. Two main categories, engagement and enablement and you need them both to be successful. Engagement across the company came in at 73% positive, up six points and higher than fortune most admired benchmark. Enablement went up two points to 72% overall positive. Which is higher than most Fortune Admired companies as well. We are a steep vertical in our space, and it is getting better by the day. I sincerely, hope you find a company that is a better fit for what you are looking for. I really do. Sincerely, Kurt Twining

Pros

Good engineering tooling. Talented engineers and teammates. Flexible remote work.

Cons

I ran one of RealPage's larger engineering product teams for three years, hiring and developing more than half of the engineering managers and engineers on my organization. I believed I was building something that mattered. Instead of promoting the person already doing the work, leadership hired a lateral engineering manager alongside me. Over time, responsibility stayed with me while authority and support shifted elsewhere. I became the person expected to absorb every problem. My first manager used me to fill every gap instead of developing me. I was expected to handle support, incident response, production releases, coding, architecture, project management, and people management—all at the same time. My second manager sidelined me, criticized me, and focused on replacing me instead of developing me. I was once told I was "lucky to be useful, or I wouldn't still be here." That statement summed up the culture. Leadership expected constant availability while frequently being unavailable themselves. When leadership was out, I was expected to cover. I spent over a year supporting both U.S. and India time zones, making true time off nearly impossible. RealPage has incredibly talented people, but talented employees cannot overcome a culture where managers are consumed instead of developed. I loved building teams. I just wish the company had valued the people who built them.

Thank you for sharing such a candid and detailed account of your experience. We're glad the engineering tools, talent, and flexibility of remote work stood out positively, and we take seriously what you've described about being stretched across responsibilities without matching authority or support. No manager should feel they have to absorb everything alone, and your point about developing managers rather than overloading them is well taken. We'd welcome the chance to understand your experience further—please consider reaching out to your HRBP so we can address this directly. Thank you for the years you have invested in building your team.
