Pros

RCU has a reputation as a great financial institution and employer in the region it serves. The organization is generally well-run and has an incredible impact in the community. Health benefits are solid. Opportunities for advancement and transfers within the organization. Most employees are hourly, so no overtime is expected. Reviews and bonuses every 6 months. Senior leadership are generally available for feedback from employees.

Cons

401(k) match is on a gradual 5-year vesting schedule. Hybrid work is not available for the first 6 months of employment, and even after that, it is incredibly restrictive regarding travel or time/day flexibility (employees are only allowed to work remote from their homes - nowhere else - only on designated days of the week). Executives are perhaps too involved in some day-to-day operations and tend to micromanage the entire organization. At times, there's a culture of being "better than everyone else." DEI initiatives are lacking at best, but may as well be nonexistent. Legacy thinking and inefficient operations plague the organization. Tech stack is fragile and runs on some incredibly old technology. Zero options for full remote work.

We appreciate hearing your perspective on what we are doing well and opportunities we should re-explore. Redwood Credit Union is on an amazing growth journey, and our DEI committee is continuing to work diligently to expand our existing program. In an economy where businesses have been adversely impacted financially, we take pride in offering a competitive compensation and benefits package as well as offering team member flexibility with hybrid schedules.

Pros

Giving back to our community through my work makes me feel wonderful. Leaders are very honest and open about the work and expectations. Work Life balance for most employees is a big win. Benefits are great and even with increases costs RCU has absorbed those costs and make sure team members do not get hit with those costs. Reviews are 2 times a year which gives employees a chance for bonuses twice a year. (And raises twice a year for hourly employees)

Cons

Sometimes takes a long time to make a decision on hiring We are too big for the approval process in place today. Need to build a structure where not every promotion or movement of staff needs CEO approval. Lower pay than private sector but also a pro because we give back so much to our community.
