Pros

- Pay adequately reflects the effort and hours put into the job - Seemingly unlimited resources (trade books, copying paper/supplies) - Classroom budget (pretty much nonexistent in most districts) - Strong sense of commitment to mission among MOST staff

Cons

Where to begin...there is no work-life balance. School leaders do not respect your time at all. You're expected/encouraged to work yourself to the bone to make others look good. School leaders are inexperienced and ill-prepared for their roles, particularly when it comes to staff development. Teaching staff is heavily inexperienced Teach for America corps members, meaning that any and all extra resources/support are allocated to them. Curricula, where/when they do exist, are overwhelmingly oriented to test preparation. Science and social studies are missing in action. No technology beyond Chrome Books in the learning labs for "skill and drill" programs. Project based learning and collaborative/cooperative group work have no place here. Claims to have a "college-bound" focus, but is really preparing students to take the tests to get into college - NOT to succeed in higher education.

Cons

Hard work, so learning how to manage time and expectations is critical

Pros

The people here are so enjoyable to work with. Smart, down-to-earth, mission-oriented. Work-life balance is also strong and has attributed to me staying so long.

Cons

Lean teams can often mean wearing many hats and not being able to specialize/hone skills as sharply because of it
