Pros

Coworkers are like family and we work together well. Everyone looks out for others. Good support of nurses by management - in my experience they generally back you up. They have not let HCAHPS rule the unit. The emphasis is on delivering excellent customer service but never sacrificing self-respect or being abused by patients. Good orientation experience and great training for preceptors.

Cons

Benefits are very expensive which is typical of most hospitals. 2% raises each year but no clinical ladder so there is really no financial incentive to become certified or advance your education. Very limited education reimbursement.

Great Co-Workers, great leadership, and I really enjoy the work culture.

12 hour shifts are hard but I get my steps in.

Pros

Staff typically works well together despite the cons. You’re collectively keeping your head above water to survive.

Cons

Pay, staffing are garbage. Other systems pay considerably more. Think of private equity firms without the inevitable bankruptcy. Focus is on profits, not staff or patients. ER is ran on a skeleton crew with no incentive to pickup extra shifts. Lots of pressure to “help the team” which is code for work harder for less.
