Pros

Lots of support and learning opportunities. The Director here really pushes you to be the best of the best. The doctors are pleasant to work with. You can hear and see teamwork everywhere. Everyone is always willing to help out.

Cons

Austin has the lowest pay for nurses. 6:1 ratio patients are sometimes a struggle especially when you start with 6 at the beginning of the shift.

Pros

Staff typically works well together despite the cons. You’re collectively keeping your head above water to survive.

Cons

Pay, staffing are garbage. Other systems pay considerably more. Think of private equity firms without the inevitable bankruptcy. Focus is on profits, not staff or patients. ER is ran on a skeleton crew with no incentive to pickup extra shifts. Lots of pressure to “help the team” which is code for work harder for less.
