Pros

The staff are friendly and work together well, at least in my unit. Management is reasonable and listens to opinions from staff. I feel recognized for my hard work.

Cons

The biggest con is the low pay. This is an Austin-wide issue, the cost of living is rising faster than the income. The electronic charting system is pathetic.

Great Co-Workers, great leadership, and I really enjoy the work culture.

12 hour shifts are hard but I get my steps in.

Pros

Staff typically works well together despite the cons. You’re collectively keeping your head above water to survive.

Cons

Pay, staffing are garbage. Other systems pay considerably more. Think of private equity firms without the inevitable bankruptcy. Focus is on profits, not staff or patients. ER is ran on a skeleton crew with no incentive to pickup extra shifts. Lots of pressure to “help the team” which is code for work harder for less.
