Cons

Until about a year ago, Ruggable used to be a pretty great place to work. The company was growing, incredible talent was being hired and left and right, and it seemed as though leadership actually encouraged you to ask questions and share new ideas. Now however, not so much. If you share your honest opinion, you will be shut down. "Company wide layoffs" were made recently, which it seems was an excuse to push out talent that didn't necessarily agree with leadership and/or department heads and "underperformers". It also seems a bit odd to me that the majority of the talent recently laid off was POC. Over the past few months, I heard multiple department heads promote the idea that they wanted to "cut the chaff" while overworking existing employees, and telling them they will be "rewarded for their resilience". This kind of culture sounds a bit like a hazing at a frat house to me, and does not represent the work life balance promoted throughout the company. The Marketing team in particular is poorly managed. Mid level managers are overworked, while department heads are checked out and out of touch. Strategy is constantly reworked, and it's difficult to know what's going on because 9 times out of 10 the right people are not looped into conversations, and decisions that would directly impact them or their teams are made by a select few. The Executive team has a knack for signing everyone up for goals that are unattainable. At the beginning of this year, we were to launch in 13 new countries, while increasing US growth and maintaining product launch efficiency. Given that the team is crawling with Consultants, I would think they would have been able to appropriately prepare for an economic downturn and not spread each team super thin, but I guess they did not have the foresight. Last but not least, there are no salary bands across the organization, and there is a HUGE discrepancy in pay across teams and even roles. If you're a Consultant, expect to be making upward of $130k, but if you're not, then bad luck. The pathway for promotions/upward mobility is deliberately kept vague, and they will drown you in work for at least 3 months before management decides you deserve a promotion. This is rather infuriating because if employees are put through the ringer and quit, the company will have to incur additional financial costs to replace said talent, and ultimately offer the title + salary the employee deserved to a new hire. Last but not least, the company is a complete black box. At team meetings, they will tell you how much Ruggable is "growing" year over year, but they will not reveal any cost information. They'll talk about growth till the cows come home, but if you're spending more than you're making, that's a disaster waiting to happen. It's also a black box in terms of management. You will hear of people being randomly fired/let-go/laid off, causing you to fear coming to work every single day. They also removed the detailed pulse survey questionaire every month which has now been reduced to an NPS survey. If you somehow have courage and would like to provide your manager feedback in your bi-annual review, you also no longer have the ability to do that in an official way that's recorded on the books. Overall, if you're not a Consultant, have creative ideas + value innovation, and enjoy work life balance, this is not the right place for you.

Pros

The company offers a fast-paced work environment where employees can gain broad experience and take ownership of important projects. Some teams work well together, and employees often have the chance to improve processes and solve real operational problems. Benefits are competitive, and the casual work environment may appeal to some employees.

Cons

Career growth opportunities are limited, and advancement paths are not always clear. Employees may take on more responsibility without receiving a promotion, title change, or matching pay. Priorities can shift often, and teams are sometimes expected to meet high goals without enough staffing, planning, or system support. Communication and accountability can vary across departments. The overall experience depends heavily on the employee’s manager and leadership team.
