Pros

We actually have fairly decent equipment, which is a far cry better that what we had prior to Rural Metro. The insurance is decent (if you can find a provider). Other than that.......not much.

Cons

It was decent, until they ALLOWED a union. They never forced a vote of employees. The management seems to hide behind this union agreement to show the union "See, we told you so". If the management would have stopped and said, NO to the union, we would have weeded out the crybabies, but now we are stuck with them. Management on several occasions, have needed to be reminded to do their job. We are subordinate to a division that is over 150 miles away, and seems not really care about the employees here (local management at least seems somewhat concerend for their employees), just the money we are making for them. Rural/Metro posted a fairly decent profit this past year, but the street employees will not see it.

Pros

Straightforward with their expectations of you leading up and going into the academy.

Cons

There is no room for error. If you’re not in good physical condition and think you’ll improve while in the academy you’re wrong. You need to already be in good shape or they will run you ragged for it. It’s either you’re ready or you’re not and if you’re not then they will make it as miserable as possible to test you and either you quit or they fire you.
