Pros
It's better than flipping burgers. If you're lucky, there's downtime in between calls. Getting time off wasn't too bad, usually people are willing to trade shifts with you. They start you out slow with mainly transfers between hospitals or drop offs at home, so you get to learn the software and the area, before moving you to 911 calls. Wide availability of training so you're always up to speed (if you put in the time to go to class).
Cons
Low pay, poor communication, unrealistic goals set by management, and constant (unwarranted) backlash from the community. There is little love between EMS and fire, making collaboration on calls difficult.
