Pros

Friendly dispatch, they try but are constantly at a disadvantage from all the drivers being fired. Great that you can work part time, tuff that the employment is only going to last for about 2 weeks or so for most. Best pro, no smoking!

Cons

No exaggeration as they perv on you in the in cab camera... You'll be fired for overly yawning! Using cell phone GPS, showing up 15 minutes early or late to a stop, and any mishap while delivering. All their deliveries are extremely high risk, not meant for tractor trailers what so ever. Lots of NYC, in straight truck only locations, except you'll be the fool with a 48' trailer. Any tickets or traffic violations/blocking traffic, due to the areas you are delivering to means automatically fired. They have orientation every week, yet only have around 18 or 20 stores they deliver to. Driver average employment lifetime is 3 weeks from orientation, pointless training, & then by second delivery solo drivers are usually fired. Many state got lost & used phone to get the heck out of the NYC mess. At the stops theirs no docks and it's all by manual jacks on uneven roadways. Pallets you can't physically move must be broken down by hand. What should be 5 or 6 hour trip workout to around 10 or 13 hours. Daily pay is $250 plus 20 for every stop or 50 for NYC. At the end, it's not worth the trouble just to get fired by your second delivery to their Trader Joe's or other none tractor trailer accounts they send tractor trailer too. No job is worth risking your hard earned CDL, especially when the company tells you they will absolutely not stand by you & will even warn to charge you for loses if that's even legal, who knows.

Pros

I worked with many hardworking frontline associates who genuinely cared about serving the customer. The company offers opportunities to gain experience in complex logistics operations, particularly in startup environments.

Cons

My experience was at a startup operation, so other Ryder locations may differ. During recruitment, the role was described as a senior leadership position focused on inventory accuracy, outbound execution, OS&D, process improvement, and developing leaders. Once I started, the role became primarily tactical execution centered on outbound load closure and daily firefighting. The startup had changing priorities, overlapping leadership direction, and an unclear decision making structure. Responsibilities shifted frequently, making it difficult to understand who owned decisions or how success would ultimately be measured. The schedule was also much different than I expected. Extended days became common almost immediately, including six and seven day workweeks. I understand startups require flexibility, but I did not see a clear plan for transitioning to a sustainable operating model. If you are interviewing for a leadership role at a startup account, ask detailed questions about the actual day to day responsibilities, authority to implement improvements, schedule expectations, and how performance will be evaluated during the first 90 days.
