Pros

Strong Team work, supportive coworkers. New Health plan with UMR allows us to go to other metropolitan hospitals even if not Saint Luke’s affiliated. In that case there us a lower coverage , 75% instead of 90%, but is nice to have access to services and treatments not offered at Saint Luke’s or simply if there is a very good surgeon you want access to somewhere else.

Cons

Often understaffed, decreased selection of supplies make it difficult to provide appropriate patient care. We used to be able to use bath wipes to bath or clean patients incontinence, these are soft and gentle on patients with fragile skin prone to pressure wounds. Now we have to use washcloths which are hard on older and fragile skin. In my professional opinion this was a bad call that hurts patients. Health insurance plan as mentioned in the Pros section is now with UMR. The bad: in comparison to our previous health care plan with Blue Cross of Kansas City, this plan doesn’t cover many generic drugs. In my case a generic form of medication, the only type I can take, is not covered?!! I was without my medicine for weeks while waiting on the company to approve it but it was ultimately denied. Now paying out of pocket for the full price of 540.00 Dollars for a 90 days refill. As a nurse working at such large hospital you would think we would be given better coverage!

Pros

you can get your MA for free

Cons

Low pay, no sick time, benefits aren’t great, managers will gaslight you into thinking whatever is in their benefit, stressful, seeing unlimited amounts of patients you have to see, managers don’t care if you can’t afford cost of living or anyone in the system. They think $22 is more than enough even when working for 8 years and being loyal. When you advocate for a better pay they tell you that you are basically making what someone would in 15+ years of service. They don’t do increases on cost of living. Merit raises are .40-.60 cents for most of front desk and MA no matter how hard you work.
