Pros

Sam's pays better than minimum wage. They're not open 24 hours and are closed on holidays. Sunday premium is paid. Profit sharing is nice to receive once a year. You can wear jeans and mostly comfortable clothes. You don't need a college degree to move into management. Co-workers are above average in intelligence for the most part. Customers are above average types. Pretty decent little Holiday party. Good about making sure breaks are provided and on time. Prices and barcodes are accurately in sync 99% of the time. Doors close at a much more reasonable hour than other retailers.

Cons

Cashiers have become salespeople preying on captive members to sell Plus memberships, Extended Warranties, and trying to force credit cards on them when they can't even escape the pitch because you're holding their groceries hostage. In addition to making members angry, it pisses off all the people in line behind them as the wait is too long because only half of the needed cashiers are ever scheduled. Too few support people create numerous and unreasonable delays which creates even more angry customers and even higher stress levels. Break schedule for short days is inequitable. New hire training is a total joke. Cleaning supplies are almost non-existent. Employee discount is limited to 10% off overpriced produce only. Management is comprised of people with little more than a high school diploma and it shows. Not enough cash is in drawer for startup. Checkout area is unreasonably warm for employees AND customers.

Pros

The pay is good and so are the benefits.

Cons

This is the worst job I have ever had. I made it 3 weeks before leaving and never coming back. They had me working 12 hour shifts when I was scheduled for 8 but couldn’t leave because I wasn’t finished with the large workload they piled on me. There was absolutely no teamwork, our manager just abandoned us so they could go hang out with their friends. There was no organization, no structure. 100% sure my manager never even knew my name. They had us breaking down pallets just to restack them. There are no consequences for management at all, they can basically do whatever they want and nobody is gonna do anything to stop it. If they're short they throw you into different departments with no training.
