Pros
It’s a fun business, and there is a desire to treat guests right (as long as it doesn’t cost too much). Despite what activists say, animals are treated extremely well - better than the employees.
Cons
Company is totally focused on stock price and making certain investors very wealthy. Company’s recent financial success has come at the expense of employees, who have worked years without a raise and have more to do with fewer people. So many long-time leaders have been kicked to the curb. If they are replaced, it’s always with someone more junior and cheaper. Often jobs are consolidated and the people left have more to do with no additional compensation. Some of that can be expected in any business, but it’s to an extreme at SeaWorld Parks. There is zero focus now on employee satisfaction or motivation. They used to do an annual employee survey to track satisfaction but stopped doing it because they don’t want to know, or do anything to improve it. There is no career planning or development at all. Employees are just replaceable parts in a machine. Corporate management has been in total turmoil for over a year. The new CEO probably won’t help because the company is really run by board members who dictate everything. They have filled most senior positions with mildly competent yes men who jump to their latest direction. This may be a good enough place to work for a pat-time job, but not a company you can make a career at. It used to be a place people were proud to work at, but it’s a different company now.
