Pros

For most of my career I've worked at large companies. Seamgen is my first experience working for a small company and I can confidently say I enjoy Seamgen more than any of my previous job. The benefit of working in a small company is that your voice is absolutely heard. I know that you hear that alot at companies, but this is the first one that actually follows through with that promise. Additionally the office culture is great. I've been with the company for two years and each month it gets better and tighter. We have company outings, a dart board, a foosball table, sonos speaker system throughout the office. We're right downtown so theres always alot going on. Lately there has definitely been more of a focus on building company culture and hiring the right people for the culture rather than just hiring people to fill a position. Culture is huge in making us want to come to work every day and work with one another. The work-life balance is good too. Since we're a small company, we're all working hard to make sure we get things done, but a typical day does not generally include workin 9hr-12hr days. If you manage your time correctly and meet your deadlines consistently, you're sitting pretty.

Cons

Since it is a small company we are still figuring out a few things. You also may be asked to wear multiple hats if a certain situation arrises. I've seen this get better over the course of the past 2 years, but issues like this do indeed come up in a startup/small company environment. For the longest time we have had rather lackluster project managers which lead to alot of projects being mismanaged. Over the past few months this has REALLY turned around and we've got 2 great project managers that are doing a great job. Since we are downtown, you have to pay for parking. Luckily Seamgen reimburses half of your parking costs per months, but not all of them…yet. I hope in the future Seamgen will cover 100% of parking costs.

Pros

Seamgen is a great budding company with a load of opportunity. There are many projects for developers to work on and enhance their skills. Leadership is good about paying for training and there are opportunities to make additional income in the company. Some clients have ample work to keep the company busy, so there is room to earn extra for additional hours. Most programmer's that work for Seamgen are solid and there are veterans in the company in which to learn. Projects range from web development, mobile and desktop and developers work closely with clients in an agile setting.

Cons

Some of the administration tasks, seem disorganized. Seems like its gotten better, though recently with the replacement of some of the administrators. The company is growing rapidly, so developers are spread thin until new developers are brought on board and up to speed. There is definitely an expectation to be able to fulfill a consulting role. Devs who haven't done consulting are not necessarily adept with dealing directly with the client, and are put in a client-facing position. As with any consulting project, there is a shuffling of developers to fill roles for new clients.
