Pros

I was very satisfied with my job as an RN at Seattle Children's. They focus on family-centered care, provide excellent training for new and continuing employees, and value patient safety. The research taking place is amazing and makes me want to continue working there. I feel like they also treated the staff well and the people I worked with were generally happy in their positions.

Cons

The scheduling and vacation requests were handled differently in each department, and weren't always the best for the nurses. My unit had over 100 nurses, but no more than 4 nurses could request vacation at one time, and it was all based on seniority. The institution had "self-scheduling" but most the time requests weren't honored. Other than minor staffing issues, I don't think there were many "cons" to working at Seattle Children's.

Pros

Front line staff genuinely care and are committed to the organization, even though it has changed dramatically for the worse.

Cons

Leadership under new CEO (Longhurst) has quickly become toxic. Long time employees and leaders are exiting quickly. Return to office mandate is going into effect in October 2026 and has caused massive upheaval and unproductive work for months as employees seek answers and get none. This comes after years of successive waves of layoffs and financial struggles that have damaged trust in executive leadership and the board. SCH used to care about mission and now it cares about keeping up with tech company trends and petting CEO’s ego.
