Unrealistic expectations to staff, educators are not valued and often let go without providing enough support to succeed. Principals are often not good leaders and are often trained to lay the law, mandated by the District instead of providing support, training and resources. I worked in elementary schools at the north, central and south Seattle and there are big disparities and inequalities related to ZIP codes. There is segregation in the Seattle schools despite the focus on "closing the achievement gap" campaign, which is a big bureaucratic PR just for looks. Better education for white affluent neighborhoods and fewer resources for diverse minority schools with more needs. The diversity in staff doesn't reflect the diversity of a student's body. Professional development is very limited and poor quality, not enough resources to service all students. Core curriculums keep changing almost every other year, while international schools, language programs, and dual immersion programs don't even have a curriculum. Special Education programs and behavioral supports are weak. Minorities and special need populations are the most underserved demographics in Seattle schools. Seattle public schools are heavily segregated.
