Pros
- Generous RRSP matching program (I think it was like 8%) - Employees there are generally very friendly and helpful if you need guidance - International company so sometimes you get international project experience and may get to travel to different around the world - Management will sometimes encourage external training or professional development (if the budget allows) - Flexible with sick days and appointments during work days
Cons
- The company is on a steep decline since the Energy industry has taken a serious hit from both Covid as well as the Saudi-Russia disputes (I would avoid the energy industry at all costs right now) go check out the stock's performance, it had declined from $60 per share to $0.60 at one point (that's a 99% decline ladies and gentlemen) - The wrong people get promoted up the ladder. If you brought in revenue, you were promoted, no matter if it was through dishonest, unethical ways. It wasn't uncommon for a nice, hardworking person to be stuck in a role for 8 years (another con here, lack of a concrete road to progression). - Extreme cost cutting measures and constant lay-offs completely killed any morale or motivation that was left. Your job is completely unstable, no matter your performance. If you are fortunate enough to stay, you will constantly be given reasons as to why your salary is being frozen (market conditions usually). Cost cutting was so extreme that we weren't even allowed to have our monthly birthday cakes anymore... - No corporate culture or identity in any way. This company is a dinosaur even for the energy industry, and it has refused to adapt to modern times. There is literally ZERO team building unless you organize it yourself and pay for it out-of-pocket. I had no idea who I was working for or why I should be proud to work for this organization, it seemed like they could care less about the employees and didn't even attempt at nurturing a positive corporate culture. Operationally, the company tried to skimp money wherever possible by not paying for proper software, not fully implementing the ERP system, and (my personal pet peeve) trying to do absolutely EVERYTHING on Excel rather than investing some cash into newer programs. - Anyone who has been there since before 2015 will tell you how amazing everything used to be, the pay, the company retreats/conferences (A week in Spain, Rome, etc), eating out at fancy restaurants weekly, flying first class, etc. Really irritating to know how great this place used to be compared to the dumpster fire it currently is.
