Pros
Thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone at Shopify. Their employee culture team does an extraordinary job at making employees including themselves believe they are part of something bigger than themselves and are crafting e-commerce history (within reason).
Cons
Terrible impact on mental health (those laid off and those not). Layoffs aren't fun but there are graceful ways to handle it vs. thoughtless/deceitful management. Management reported increase in revenue and promised there wouldn't be layoffs a month prior since the company was doing well despite tough economic conditions. Then one day, you wake up with a breakup email, with the content specifying that the brief breakup info session happened during your time zone's 5 am so it's too bad you missed it and only have the dumping email to look at.
