Cons
The workplace environment has been growing increasingly challenging. Frequent leadership changes have resulted in shifting priorities and constantly evolving objectives. At the team level, employees often lack clear and consistent goals to work toward, leading to confusion and frustration. This inconsistency can result in unfair evaluations during performance reviews, as individuals are judged against objectives that have changed mid-year under new leadership. There is heavy reliance on tools like Google Sheets and Docs, often to an unsustainable degree. Leadership could benefit from valuing feedback from all levels of the organization. In some areas, there is a noticeable top-down approach that discourages innovation and stifles contributions from talented individuals, who may feel pressured to remain quiet rather than share differing perspectives. Decision-making processes driven by a small group of senior leaders can hinder progress, especially when those decisions do not consistently align with the broader goals of the organization. Many processes and workflows are reactive rather than proactive, which pose a challenge to staying competitive in the industry. Additionally, there is a need for greater respect and understanding of cultural and geographical diversity. For example, differences in work styles and attitudes across regions, such as EMEA, LATAM, and the US, often go unacknowledged. The emphasis on a "hustle culture" has begun to permeate globally, creating blurred boundaries between work and personal life. Employees frequently work late hours, with little acknowledgment or support from management or HR to promote healthier work-life balance, despite engagement surveys suggesting otherwise. Meetings are another area of concern, as many lack clear agendas or productive outcomes. The repetition of discussions without actionable steps slows progress and hinders the ability to address challenges effectively. Staffing and resource allocation are also significant issues. Teams are often expected to take on additional workloads without the necessary resources or support, leading to burnout and diminishing the quality of work. Expanding into new areas requires investment in tools and personnel, particularly in critical functions like data science and risk management. Without this, the strain on already overstretched teams will lead to long-term consequences.
