Pros
The lack of hours helps benefit those going to school.
Cons
Everything is a con. Pay is low. Hours are extremely low to varying in what shifts you work, (unless you are full-time), which is next to impossible to get, unless you go through many obstacles. The rate is very high for being injured on the job, it's something that's well known when working for Smart & Final, and there are new store managers about every 2-3 years. The turnover rate is (I think) relatively high. The budget for weekly hours is cut every year, so while you may work for over 3 to 4 years with some small increases in pay due to raises, new employees with lower hourly wages will be preferred, as a logistic standpoint from management.
