I was desperate for a job, so I accepted this position in early 2017. Sonic had recently acquired a subsidiary in California and my team extended customer support to their existing client base. We frequently received calls from this subsidiary's local clients who were struggling to resolve unpaid accounts that had been sent to a collections agency - they called us asking for their billing history. When this subsidiary was taken over by Sonic, none of the archived accounts prior to the Feb. '17 acquisition were included. My team was instructed to give out a local CA phone number to any clients making these records requests. This number went straight to a voicemail box for an individual who no longer worked for the subsidiary. We had no choice but to provide this number to clients, knowing that nobody would return the call, and knowing that the clients would receive zero support in their attempt to resolve their old debts. Management was 100% aware of this. Sonic forced the Customer Care team to lie to and deceive CA clients. This may go beyond simply being unethical as hell. It may very well be a violation of fair debt practices in CA and in TX. Sonic needs to be investigated for this, and based upon the company culture, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if there are other dirty secrets lying below the surface.
