Pros

Benefits and salary are OK.

Cons

Regional management is only concerned about the bottom line, and not about the health and welfare of their employees at the properties they manage. Property managers are required to spend much of their time preparing weekly and monthly reports for senior management, leaving little time for tending to issues in the office or on the property. Properties are understaffed and staffing is stretched very thin. Many times there is only one person in the office who is expected to answer phones, stay on top of on line inquiries and e mails, advertising, conduct property tours with walk ins and appointments, lease renewals, new applications, new tenant move ins and apartment inspections, and solve tenant issues that arise. Due to thin staffing, when one member of the team is out sick or on vacation the remaining staff are overwhelmed with keeping the property running smoothly and dealing with resident issues and concerns. Liberal paid sick leave policy but you get the third degree if you try to use sick time. Part time workers are subject to an ever changing weekly work schedule, making it difficult to make plans or keep a routine. Revolving door of personnel at properties as well. In four years at the property I worked at I saw 3 managers, 2 assistant managers, 4 maintenance supervisors, and several maintenance techs come and go, and it takes months for them to be replaced if they are replaced at all. Training is lacking, you are told to do something one way and 6 months later you are criticized and told that is not correct. After resigning with two weeks notice I was not contacted by anyone from management or the corporate office or HR, and there was no discussion as to why I had resigned or an exit interview. Basically no acknowledgement of my leaving after almost 4 years. Overall a very stressful environment and disappointing experience. Really a shame as I truly enjoyed the job itself.
